Teeth that are properly aligned and appropriately spaced are easier to keep healthy and clean. Unfortunately, few people are born with perfectly aligned teeth and an ideal bite. Orthodontists Dr. Kenneth Webb and Dr. Audrey Laimins help children and adults who wish to make improvements to their smiles.
Orthodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of teeth alignment, bite and jaw growth discrepancies. Orthodontists are dentists who went on to complete an additional two to three years of education after graduating from dental school. During that time, they received first-hand clinical experience in treating all types of smile and bite problems.
The American Association of Orthodontists suggests that children receive an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. This age is ideal because children possess a mix of baby and adult teeth, and the bite is established. In most cases, no treatment is needed at age 7. Instead, your child is placed in our monitoring program. We schedule periodic checkups as your child grows and more adult teeth erupt to determine if and when treatment should begin.
Orthodontic treatment in our office is convenient for families because all of your child’s dental records are in one location. You also can easily schedule dental and orthodontic checkups together.
In cases where an evaluation by age 7 identifies growth discrepancies that are best addressed at a young age, our orthodontists will recommend interceptive treatment. This may include widening the palate to create more space, or promoting or discouraging jaw growth to improve the relationship between the upper and lower jaw.
Early treatment often enables a child to avoid more extensive or invasive treatment later in childhood, such as having adult teeth pulled or undergoing orthognathic (jaw) surgery.
A smile can be improved at any age, which means orthodontic treatment is beneficial for adults as well as children. Plenty of parents bring their children here for treatment and inquire about treatment for themselves once they see the great results achieved in their kids.
We offer treatment options that are less noticeable than metal braces, such as clear and ceramic brackets, and Invisalign®, which is practically unnoticeable when the aligners are worn.
An orthodontic evaluation is necessary to determine the best treatment course. Please call today if it is time to schedule your child’s first orthodontic evaluation, or if you want to learn more about treatment for yourself.
